Looking to Critique

I'm currently writing...

I’ve written a young adult, alternate history novel. It’s an adventure about about pirates in the 18th century. My MC is a girl. In my alternate history, the crimes of pirates pass onto their next-of-kin, so she becomes a pirate by default. She has an unlikely love interest. The voice leans more light than dark, although I do feel like it has high stakes. It’s just lacking the teen angst that sometimes makes a story darker.

Critiquing experience

I have dabbled here & there

Are you pursuing publication?

Yes, I’m serious about getting published

What I want in an awesome Critique Partner

Deep critique. I am experienced with critiquing.

The type of structure you like

Casual exchange, no deadlines

How often can you give & receive feedback?

Weekly

What is your writing experience?

I write daily–at least a couple hours a day. I have a finished manuscript that I’d love to get (impartial) feedback on. I’ve started the querying process, but I’m only a week in. I have two previous manuscripts that will never see the light of day. I also have a WIP that I’m excited about. I’ve been writing for about 10 years.

My writing influences are...

JK Rowling, Suzanne Collins, um… I should have more here

Books I enjoy reading

Harry Potter, Hunger Games, The Book Thief, The Thief series (by Megan Whalen Turner). Books I love that aren’t YA: Captain Blood, These is My Words, The Help, Exodus, Battle Royale,

I have a blog that I haven’t updated since March, but I never talk about writing on there. It’s mostly nonsense and links to You Tube videos and stuff about my kids.

Oh, but I did have this sweet Hunger Games cake decorating contest on my blog to celebrate the release of Catching Fire:

And then again the next year for Mockingjay:

More About Me

I’m a married stay at home mom of three boys. I read widely, but I lean towards YA with a love angle. I’ve been writing for a long time. I never talk to my IRL friends about writing because I don’t want to risk alienating them (plus I’m shy about it I guess). I can be a perfectionist. I’m nice. Why does this feel so awkward? I hate that sideways smile thing ;) but I do it sometimes anyway. I never type “lol” (unless there are quotes around it).
