I’m writing a young adult novel based in a fantasy world (but it’s not a high fantasy novel), influenced by Welsh and Celtic mythology. Right now I am in deep revisions, hoping to have it ready for querying by September. The story takes place in a kingdom where the fair folk bless humans with supernatural abilities. Melle is a girl with no blessings and Velimir is a prince with too many. Velimir can take life—adding to his own years—or give healing—at the cost of his own life. Melle grows up as one of the few unblessed, and is socially despised for her difference. They must work together to save their kingdom. |

Unpublished (aside from undergrad lit magazines), though I had a lot of interest in a previous manuscript (but stopped querying when I realized it still needed work). Some college courses (including a tutorial), an essay award. Generally write between 3000-8000 words per week. My wordcount-within-24-hours record to date is 10, 000 words. |
| My writing influences are... |
Lois Lowry, Rick Riordan, Sherwood Smith, Jane Austen, Robin McKinley, Juliet Marillier, Elizabeth Marie Pope, Welsh history and mythology, Celtic mythology, travel |
| Books I enjoy reading |
Wonderstruck, The Son of Neptune, The Lord of the Rings, The Perilous Gard, basically: books that capture the imagination, especially when they bring old mythology to life. I love exploring different worlds, but what I really love is strong characters that make the worlds real. |
