Hello all! I’m Katie and live in Oxford, MS. I have a graphic design degree, work in marketing and research by day and write in my free time. I’m drawn primarily to YA (guess I never quite grew up!) and my books tend to be pretty romancey. I write paranormal sometimes and contemporary sometimes, it just depends on what ideas pop in my head.
I’ve got about 3 or 4 novels that are mostly finished (but in dire need of editing and revisions) and about 10 or 15 ideas that I’ve started/abandoned half way, etc. because plot bunnies tend to take control. I’m awful about starting something new when I’m in the middle of something else. I’m fairly good at beginnings, but I always struggle with ending a novel.
I’ve never been part of a writing or a critique group. I recently considered joining a local writing group, but quickly scrapped the idea because… Well, I’ll just say that the group would’ve been nothing but pretentious turds. Living in Oxford where Faulkner lived tends to breed uppity “Southern Writers” that are so far up their own butts that I’m sure they would have looked down on anyone who was interested in anything besides southern literature. Nothing against Southern literature, I just don’t write it.
I’m looking for someone to share my writing with. Someone who likes romance, who can encourage me, give me constructive criticism, and help me when I’m stuck. And if the story plain sucks, I’d like to know that, too, so I don’t keep wasting my time and can start over, but please say it nicely. 🙂 Like @mgrimit, I’m a big fan of the critique sandwich!
