Hello!
I’m Kimberly Gould and I published my first novel this summer. It is a post-apocalyptic renaissance. That said, it is a YA book and one I would class more as Fantasy than Sci-Fi. The ‘dark age’ gives the setting a fantasy feel.

I have four manuscripts in a can. The first is not YA, so make that three.

I have a sequel for Cargon: Honour and Privilege which is just a very choppy first draft – not ready for critique.

I have my NaNoWriMo Zombie time-loop story. Again, it isn’t ready for critique yet, first draft only.

The one I’m really looking for help with is my YA paranormal romance. It’s a ghost story. Jared’s pre-school friend, Ruthie, was killed in the same crash as his parents. He was adopted by Ruthie’s parents who have just moved him from Tacoma to Calgary, Alberta. The move, the changing hormones and a few other exciting events have shaken Ruthie’s ghost free from Jared. While he’s just trying to fit in and managed to talk to the cheerleader that makes his tongue stick to the roof of his mouth, his friend is attracting the attention of the school freak. She’s also doing a good job of making him look like some kind of weirdo.

I had a pair of people look at this script and they tried to take it somewhere I didn’t want it to go. Instead of simply saying, ‘hey, I don’t like that’ I took it personally as an attack. Although I’ve done a lot of critique, I haven’t been given a lot of critique. Most of the critiques I’ve received have been very helpful and I’ve used in whole or part. However, the pair that looked at this piece first were decidedly unhelpful. I thought it was because I had taken it personally, but reflecting, it was probably because I wasn’t clear enough about what the story was. I’m hoping my next critique will go much better.

When I’m not writing, I’m a mother of a five-year-old and an environmental consultant. I suffer from depression that can make my achievements seem less and my hurdles too large. I’m definitely in need of a group of people to share my successes and failures with. I’m hoping I’ve come to the right place.

I have a blog: http://kimmydonn.blogspot.com/
