My current WIP is a YA fantasy novel with a very contemporary feel. It’s about a seventeen-year-old boy who is a wheelchair-user because of an injury his older brother inflicted on him six years ago. He struggles to find out why his brother did that and to free himself from the imposed role of being someone’s victim. The book has a romantic subplot, some magic and also some humor.
I wrote an earlier version of this story for NaNoWriMo 2009, went through a few rounds of revision and then decided to rewrite the book from scratch this year. I just finished the first draft a few days ago and am quite satisfied with how it turned out. Though obviously it still needs a lot of work. 😉
The plan is to put it aside for at least a few weeks and then add in a few things I already know are missing. I tend to neglect the fantasy elements and worldbuilding in my books during the first draft. 😉 Once I’ve done that (hopefully before November), I’ll be ready for some serious feedback. However, I am perfectly fine with exchanging pages from rough drafts to see if someone might be a good match for critiquing. 🙂
Right now I’m looking at various ideas for stories and characters to try and figure out what to write next. I hope to have managed that by November, so that I can start writing the next book for NaNoWriMo.
